APESH**T IN PARIS: The Carters Rent Out the Louvre

It’s one thing to shoot a music video in Paris, but to rent out the former royal palace and now world-famous museum, the Louvre, is a different bracket of lavish. The Carters shot the video to their new single ‘APES**T’, in front of famous pieces in the beautiful Louvre with artists like Leonardo da Vinci, Jacques-Louis David, Théodore Géricault, etc. and even had a shot in front the ‘Louvre Pyramid’.

Along with the astonishing venue choice for the video ‘APES**T’, the creativity and the eloquence of the video was unmatched. The dancers dressed in nudes that fit every hue reflected in the video and the appreciation of black art and love was constantly reflected in multiple scenes in the video. Although, the couple is a primary focus this video, they do not overshadow the beauty of ‘The Louvre’, where even in scene’s in front of the art, the art is respected and appreciated in the most graceful way.

We can also appreciate the styling choices for the couple, seeing Beyoncé dressed in Burberry, MCM, Peter Pilotto, etc. and Jay-Z matching her fly, per usual, in similar designers paired with expensive chains. ‘Portrait of a Negress’ is also featured in the video, along with, Beyoncé’s on homage to the piece as she sits next to Jay-Z, similarly posed as the woman in the original painting from Marie-Guillemine Benoist,

and draped in a Versace ensemble. There is also a scene, which ultimately became the duo’s album cover, where one of the women is combing through a man’s hair, symbolizing, what we think, is the crossing difference between different cultures and embracing ours in any space.

With such a beautiful cross of art and trap, the Carters have taken things to a new level of influence, that may help the expansion of classical art appreciation everywhere. One scene we can appreciate greatly, is the posed couple in front of the Mona Lisa, that reflects a similar shot the Carters took on their visit to The Louvre in 2014, but an upgraded and updated version.

The Carters are not shy when it comes to expressing their appreciation for art, as Jay-Z shot his video for his song ‘Picasso Baby’ in the Pace Gallery in NYC. Similarly, Beyoncé also draws influence for her works from other artists which was reflected in the imagery of her album ‘Lemonade’ through various aspects of her own cultural influence.

The surprise album ‘Everything is Love’ has shook the whole world and has brought even more excitement for ‘On The Run Tour II’. It is clear that The Carters are continuing to take the world by storm and they constantly leave us wondering…what’s next?
